Ryegrass seed contains nine species of tufted grasses, family Poaceae. These plants are native to Europe, Asia and northern Africa, but are widely cultivated and naturalised elsewhere and here in the United States.
Ryegrass seed is a type of grass that can both be used as a crop for livestock, use as temporary cover for yards, and can be used in soil erosion control programs.
Ryegrass seed used as an annual ryegrass is more resistant to crown or leaf rust. Normally germinates in 7 to 10 days. Ryegrass produces 1-3 tons of forage per acre for grazing, hay or silage. Sow 20-40 lbs. per acre broadcast. For lawns, sow 10-20 lbs. per 1,000 sq.ft. Macon Feed and Seed has over 70 years in business, grow smart!!
